Bruce AndersonChairman |
|
Bruce is a highly experienced business leader who has successfully combined his 20+ years in senior executive roles at ASX and global companies with a broad contribution within the community sector. He is a community builder having held a variety of roles in organisations to create a better world. Bruce is most passionate and experienced in supporting secondary school students successfully transition to university then work and develop their leadership capabilities.
Bruce is currently Chairman of Ourschools Advisory Group, Chairman of Wesley Church UCA Congregation, and a Trustee of the Anglesea SLSC Foundation. Bruce is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and an alumnus of the Williamson Community Leadership Program. |

Ross McPherson AM

Ross McPherson is Executive Chairman of the McPherson Media Group, a fifth-generation family Newsmedia business which started with the Shepparton News in 1888; it now includes numerous newspapers, magazines, printing events and internet businesses. He joined the family business after practicing commercial law, having graduated from Melbourne and London Universities. Among numerous industry, local and philanthropic involvements, Ross chairs the Goulburn Valley Health Foundation, is a member of the Committee for Greater Shepparton, a past director of SPC Ardmona Ltd and Treasurer and past-president of the 8000-member International Newsmedia Association. He is a trustee of several charitable trusts and a member of the Melbourne University Council. |

Tim WeightDirector |

Tim Weight grew up in Melbourne and studied Agricultural Science at Melbourne University. Over the years Tim’s career shifted from living and working on the land to being instrumental in its development. At the same time, Tim was a Director on the Board of the local TAFE Institute; and he has now moved to working within the business of Vocational Education and Training as Executive Director Strategic Engagement at TAFE Gippsland.
In addition to his role at TAFE Gippsland, Tim’s employment and non-executive director roles have provided a broad experience within agribusiness, property development and feasibility assessment, regional economic development, corporate management, strategy, and governance. Tim also has extensive experience as an Executive and Non-Executive Director on boards of public and private companies, private syndications, government and not-for-profit organisations. |

Bernadette LloydDirector |

Bernie Lloyd is the Chair of Bank First (formerly VTMB) and moved into corporate governance after 30 years in education in Victoria with the final 16 years in leadership positions. She understands the interdependence between schools and their communities and how high levels of trust enable productivity. She taught at her country high school for twenty years where she facilitated learning experiences for her students which gave them the capacity to enrich their own communities as well as preparing them for the world beyond their rural locale. Her leadership expertise resides in long-term strategic planning, building capacity in teams and sustaining and expanding growth in organisations. She facilitates Principal workshops in Victoria and Queensland with emphasis on school governance and ethical and performance cultures which sustain and empower. |

Peter HuntCompany Secretary |

Peter Hunt has over 38 years’ experience in business ranging from retail, aged care and education including 33 years running regional boarding schools across NSW and Victoria. Peter concluded his 23 years as Business Manager/Company Secretary at Ballarat Grammar in July 2018. He is also a director on the BGS Educational Service Ltd Board; Company Secretary and Trustee on the Ballarat Grammar Foundation; and his own private company. Peter has an MBA from UNE Armidale; is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Accountants, Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Member of Institute of Managers and Leaders; a member of Association of School Business Administrators and a Justice of Peace in Victoria. He is passionate about rural education and the effective management of Foundations. His interests include psychology, behavioural finance, financial markets and is a life-long learner across a many-and-varied field of interests. |

Jacob Chako

Jacob currently works as a Policy Advisor in the Australian Parliament – focusing on Indigenous Affairs and Social Policy. He is a Youthrive Scholar and completed a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Laws at Monash University where he was a member of the Vice-Chancellor’s Ancora Imparo Student Leadership program. As a migrant to Australia, Jacob moved to Benalla with his family and remains deeply connected to that place. As one of the early participants of the Youthrive program, Jacob has witnessed the organisation grow and has been involved in its various programs. Jacob is passionate about rural policy and believes Youthrive plays a significant role in promoting regional and remote life in all its diversity. Though currently based in the Kimberley (WA), he still calls Benalla home. | ||

Nick YoungAssociate Director |

Nick is completing the final semester of his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at Monash University. He is a Youthrive Scholar, a Monash University Excellence Scholar and the Senior Research Assistant to the Dean of the Monash Law School. Nick grew up in Warrnambool and cares deeply about access to education, particularly for rural people. He has volunteered as a teacher in East Timor and India and with UN Youth Australia. He is currently piloting the Youthrive Victoria Branch Out e-mentoring program to encourage and empower regional Victorian high school students to access further education. |

Dr Maryann BrownExecutive Officer |

Dr Maryann Brown was appointed CEO of Youthrive Victoria, formerly Macpherson Smith Rural Foundation Ltd (MSRF), in July 2016. Prior to this Maryann was Senior Education Advisor of MSRF and was responsible for developing the mentoring and leadership programs.
Passionate about helping young people live great lives and committed to supporting rural communities, Maryann considers herself very fortunate to be leading Youthrive Victoria and engaging with so many inspiring participants and supporters from across rural Victoria. A lifelong learner, Maryann enjoys collaborating on projects and addressing perennial social problems in new ways.
Prior to joining MSRF in 2011, Maryann worked extensively in the education sector as a secondary teacher, curriculum leader and teacher educator. She has strong connections with rural and regional Victoria through her work at Federation University where she was a Senior Lecturer and program coordinator of the Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary). She has qualifications in education and business. Her doctoral work explored contemporary ways of learning in teacher education.
Maryann volunteers in the local community and beyond and has various board and committee roles. She lives at Smokeytown and loves the land, her family and friends, her animals and the garden.

Brett Dunlop

Brett joined Youthrive Victoria in January 2018 as Supporter Relations Coordinator. In this role, he builds and maintains strong relationships between the foundation and its supporters, which include donors, funders, partners, sponsors, volunteers and alumni. Brett works closely with the CEO in liaising with our existing supporters, building our profile and growing a strong and diverse supporter base. Brett was born in Kalgoorlie and educated in Perth, holding a BScEd (Hons) from UWA. He taught in secondary schools in WA and NSW before commencing a three-decade-long career in major museums in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Ballarat. Brett completed his MBA at the University of Technology, Sydney. He has held executive management positions and also contributed outside of work to professional associations, heritage committees, government panels and an environmental trust. It has been several years in transition but Brett’s ‘tree change’ to Glenlyon is now complete. He particularly enjoys volunteering in local community-strengthening activities. Brett enjoys working with Youthrive supporters, helping them realise their aspirations for capable young adults in thriving rural communities. |

Melissa Proposch

Melissa joined Youthrive Victoria as Administration Officer in August 2019. Melissa’s background includes research, publishing, design, community and partnership building, small business development, and creative practice – with an emphasis on collaborative participation, grassroots community mobilisation and regional development. She finds passion and purpose in her work with local communities and combines her experience in small business development and administration, community engagement and project management, with insights gleaned as a practicing artist and printmaker of some 30 years, and as an arts publisher for more than 15 years. Melissa co-publishes independent art magazine Trouble and is a founding member and co-Chair of Castlemaine Press, a volunteer-run community access print studio. She is also a creative industries consultant with the CoCreate Group. Melissa is inspired by our young leaders and supporters and delighted to be part of the Youthrive community. She believes wholeheartedly in the capacity of our young people to explore and realise their aspirations, and values their meaningful contributions to our local communities. |

Rohan Gerrard has been appointed as Project Coordinator for the development of our exciting new Dream Seeds® Website for 2019. He has worked in website development for the last three years, running his own graphic design and website development business, building websites for a wide range of clients. He is in his second year of study completing a Bachelor of Design at Swinburne University. Rohan began his involvement with Youthrive Victoria and Dream Seeds® in January 2018 as a participant of the leadership program. Since then Rohan has been involved with a number of Youthrive Victoria programs and has assisted with planning and attending Dream Seeds® trips to both the Mallee and the South West. Rohan really enjoys working with Dream Seeds® and believes that the unique program is an amazing opportunity for Year 6 students and that it can make a real difference to a young person by allowing them to see new possibilities for their future. The new Dream Seeds® website will be a great asset to the program, allowing the magic of Dream Seeds® to continue once workshop presenters leave the classroom. |

Hannah HumphriesLeadership Program Coordinator |

Hannah originates from Glenrowan in North East Victoria and first became involved in Youthrive Victoria in July 2016 as a participant on the leadership program. Hannah has continued to be involved through the leadership and mentoring programs.
Hannah is currently in her final year of study completing a double degree of Nursing and Midwifery at Monash University Peninsula Campus. She is enthusiastic for her future within the health sector, hoping to work within rural and remote communities with dreams of work as a flight nurse/midwife. Hannah is very excited for the future of the leadership program and to work alongside the many talented young people in the development of their leadership potential. |

Brady Cronin

Brady was appointed as the Program Coordinator of Youthrive Victoria in April 2020. Brady originates from Maffra, a small town in Gippsland and has been actively involved as a volunteer and casual employee of Youthrive Victoria since 2016.
Brady is a 2019 graduate of the Bachelor of Advanced Science – Global Challenges (Honours) majoring in ecology and conservation. He further has a wide breath of experience in science communication, research, leadership and entrepreneurship education. Brady has past experience working with organisations such as Agriculture Victoria, Parks Victoria and Australian Centre for Rural Entrepreneurs (ACRE). Brady endeavours to ensure a sustainable future for the people, community and environment of rural and regional areas. He thoroughly enjoys making this a reality at Youthrive Victoria working with the inspirational and passionate young rural leaders. |

Julia has embraced every opportunity to be involved within her school and the Stawell community. As a former Stawell Secondary College student, Julia was a member and captain of many sporting teams and has taken on leadership roles in the school, such as form captain and vice-school captain. Julia has built on her skills with each new position and approaches leadership roles with thoughtful understanding, enthusiasm, and motivation. She has been involved in a wide range of community activities ranging from tree-planting to many local performances. Julia has commenced a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Journalism and Professional Writing and Editing, at Swinburne University Hawthorn with the dream of becoming a Journalist. She is well on the way to achieving her goal to work in a rural newspaper or magazine, where she can share her passion for the environment and understanding of rural life. Julia has been an enthusiastic participant in the Youthrive Victoria leadership and mentoring programs and she is part of the Dream Seeds® workshop presentation team.

Jorgie is originally from Phillip Island Victoria and has moved to Burwood to study a Bachelor of Nursing/Midwifery at Deakin University. Jorgie loves being involved in Youthrive Victoria due to the connections she makes with young people who grew up in similar rural environments and their shared enthusiasm for projects that improve rural students’ educational outcomes. Rural health is a particular passion for Jorgie and she hopes to use her degree to improve rural/regional health outcomes. |

Caroline Sutton

Caroline is an enthusiastic person from Monbulk. In secondary school Caroline formed an initiative that educated other students about the variety of sexualities and genders to encourage a more inclusive school culture. She was also extremely passionate about the music and performing arts program at the school. After graduating Caroline attended Youthrive Victoria’s Leadership program in July 2019 and now studies Cert IV in Companion Animal Services at TAFE. Further, Caroline volunteers at the RSPCA, and Umpires Community Netball. She aspires to work within the animal industry to help to advocate for animal health. Caroline loves rural communities, the peace and quiet it brings and being able to look after the land as it looks after us. |
