Tayyebah Ali – 2019 University Scholar

You are here:

Tayyebah Ali from Shepparton is one of our five outstanding University Scholarship recipients for 2019. University scholarships are awarded to young community members that have demonstrated leadership, commitment to regional communities, academic ability and resilience in meeting life’s many challenges. The scholarship provides $30,000 over three years as well as mentoring and leadership development.

Tayyebah has been an active member of the Shepparton community throughout her high school years.

“I volunteered throughout my schooling. I baked goods for my local mosque, and it was really good to be a part of that. I was a leader at school and a Beacon ambassador that really helps students.”

Selected from more than 200 applicants, Tayyebah is currently studying biomedicine at Monash University in Clayton, and after completing her studies plans to return to her local community as a rural health professional and become a mentor and role model for other young people.

Tayyebah says Youthrive Victoria’s University Scholarships can make a real difference to rural students and communities, and she is honoured to be a recipient.

“It helps rural students go on and study, then return, so they contribute to their communities again.

It’s a meaningful and prestigious award… Biomedicine is a really challenging degree which means you don’t have a lot of time for a job, so I’ll be using the money to help support me through university.”

Our other deserving recipients of University Scholarships in 2019 are Marwa Ahmed, also from Shepparton, Klodi Ward from Mansfield, Julia Clugston from Stawell and Elissa Jess from Glenorchy. We wish all recipients well with their studies and future endeavours!

Youthrive Victoria currently has ten students supported by University Scholarships generously funded by H&L Hecht Trust, Edith M & William Wilson Charity Trust, Helen Macpherson Smith Trust, the Tilley family as well as donations from generous individuals and businesses.
