Youthrive Victoria and Creswick & District Community Bank plant Dream Seeds locally!

Youthrive Victoria was pleased to receive funding from the Creswick & District Community Bank to conduct Dream Seeds workshops with local primary schools.

The Dream Seeds workshop is designed by Youthrive Victoria alumni, themselves young rural Victorians, for Year 5 and 6 students. It has a focus on building aspiration, resilience and connections, which will assist the students in their transition to high school.

In late February a team of five Youthrive Victoria presenters ran workshops with the Year 5 and 6 students from Creswick Primary, St Augustine’s Parish Primary, Creswick North Primary and Newlyn Primary (and we will visit Clunes Primary as soon as we are able). All schools provided a warm welcome. The students were very engaged and became strong contributors. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many comments about the fun and interactive nature of the activities. The primary students loved the opportunity to talk with older young people!

Our volunteer presenters, all inspiring role models, are trained facilitators. Brock McFarlane from Hamilton led the Youthrive Victoria team, joined by Sophie Fontaine from Hernes Oak, Dominic Miesen from Bacchus Marsh and two first-time presenters, Evana Miesen and Brayden Crutchfield – a former Creswick Primary student now studying Environmental Science at Federation University. Creswick teachers were delighted to catch up with Brayden and hear about his success at university. The students heard stories of Brayden’s schooltime activities, including his enthusiasm for playing soccer.

An indirect benefit arose when three students from Newlyn Primary joined with Creswick North Primary for the Dream Seeds workshop. They began to form new friendships with students they will join at high school next year, making that transition a less daunting one.

Dream Seeds workshops are valuable for primary students and they also provide leadership development opportunities for our facilitators who are rural TAFE and university students. This series of workshops is a win, win, win… and we all benefitted from the wonderful interactions.

Thanks again to Creswick & District Community Bank for making this workshop series possible.
