Dream Seeds Update Spring 2024

At the beginning of September, our Dream Seeds team headed to Wonthaggi, conducting workshops across three schools: Wonthaggi North Primary School, Powlett River Primary School, and Wonthaggi Primary School.

Four workshops were delivered to a total of 103 students, engaging them in sessions designed to inspire aspiration, build confidence and resilience, and foster a sense of connection—both among the students and within their broader communities.

The team of six presenters—Charlie, Andrew, Es, Kayla, Lateisha, and Donna—brought incredible energy and passion to the workshops. For Donna, Es and Kayla, this trip was particularly special, as it marked their first Dream Seeds presenting experience.

Donna reflected, “The highlight for me was meeting and getting to know the amazing group of presenters and presenting alongside them. It was also wonderful to experience the excitement about the workshops created in the classroom and the gratitude students and teachers genuinely had for bringing Dream Seeds to their school.”

Kayla also shared her highlights: “The best part for me was sitting with the quieter students who hadn’t written anything down yet during one of the activities and helping them brainstorm answers for the Dream Leaf questions. A close second was the chaotic games of Uno and Snap with the other presenters!”

Kayla was also struck by the diversity of the students’ perspectives. “It was really encouraging to see how varied their ideas were about what they find important and what they hope for in the future.”

The program continues to have a positive impact on both the students and staff. We look forward to continuing to foster aspiration, resilience and connection among young rural Victorians through future Dream Seeds trips.

Dream Seeds Presenter Training in Charlton

In partnership with the North Central LLEN, we recently spent an inspiring evening in Charlton, behind the historic REX Theatre, training six young local residents to become future Dream Seeds presenters. The group, comprised of current Year 12 students and young professionals from various backgrounds, came together to hone their facilitation skills and dive deep into the Dream Seeds program content.

These young leaders demonstrated enthusiasm and dedication as they learned how to deliver the Dream Seeds program content to Grade 6 students in their communities. The goal of the Dream Seeds program is to help plant seeds of aspiration, deepen students’ connections to their communities, and build resilience.

Thank you to Tori and the team at North Central LLEN for their continued support in helping us empower young people through the Dream Seeds program.
