You are here:

Corey-James Jackson from Yackandandah is our outstanding  Macpherson Smith Rural Scholar for 2020.  On 2 December, the former Beechworth Secondary College student was presented with the tertiary scholarship that includes $30,000 financial aid over three years, plus mentoring and leadership development.

Selected as one of only six recipients from over 165 applicants, the competitive scholarship will support Corey to further his education, studying a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne University. Corey plans to return to his local community after completing his studies, knowing that he can make a real difference in the region. He also intends to continue supporting Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal regional students succeed in their education and life.

We congratulate Corey and look forward to seeing him flourish. Thank you to Beechworth Secondary College for hosting a very moving scholarship presentation where Corey was presented with our certificate as well as a ‘Deadly’ Certificate and wooden sticks made from local timber by elder and Chair Person of the Local Aboriginal Consultative Group, Patricia Cerminara.
